This course will present a broad and general overview of the physiological changes that occur with aging as well as the underlying pathophysiology of age-related diseases. While older adults are diverse, there are universal physical changes that many will experience. While some of the physical changes are normal, these changes can increase the risk of developing some age-related disorders or illnesses, which are not considered to be normative aging. Course content will include differentiating factors between normal aging and psychopathology through each of the eleven organ systems of the body. Additional content will cover the role of non-pharmacological interventions, such as physical exercise, to prevent or manage some age-related health conditions.
